ABOUT US

Doctor Pokorny began working in the medical field as an orderly in the emergency room at the age of 18. He continued working in the hospital throughout his years in medical school at North Eastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine in Rootstown Ohio. He graduated from medical school as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha, the honor society for medical students. After medical school, he went on to general and plastic surgery training at St. Louis University Hospital. Following his plastic surgery training, he did a fellowship in hand and microsurgery at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center. He also enlisted in the United States Air Force Reserves and currently serves at the rank of Major.

After training Dr. Pokorny worked at the Guthrie Clinic in Sayre, Pennsylvania. He served as section chief of plastic surgery for three years at the Guthrie Clinic before moving to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where he worked at Leber and Banducci Plastic Surgery. Doctor Pokorny moved to North Carolina in August of 2009 and established Carolina Coastal Plastic Surgery.

Kristen Travis, FNP-BC
As a Nurse Practitioner at Carolina Coastal Plastic Surgery, Kristen works in collaboration with Dr. Pokorny. As a Nurse Injector, Kristen provides aesthetic services including injections such as neurotoxins, dermal fillers, Sculptra, Skin-Vive, and Asclera. She also offers microneedling, chemical peels, dermaplaning, laser treatments, and medical grade skincare. 
Kristen began her medical career as a Registered Nurse after obtaining her Associates Degree from Mount Wachusett Community College in Massachusetts in 2005. While working at a local hospital, she obtained her Bachelors Degree from Jacksonville University in Florida. Kristen continued her career as a travel nurse working in hospitals all across the country in a variety of settings, ultimately settling in Tennessee. She worked in the Emergency Department while she continued her education to get her Masters degree from the University of Phoenix, and then her Post-Masters Certificate from the University of Memphis in 2014. She is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Kristen practiced in Tennessee at a local Urgent Care and an integrated office where she evaluated and treated patients with neck, back, and joint pain. In 2019 she started offering aesthetic services, and completed additional comprehensive training at the Aestra Institute in Florida to perfect the art of injecting.  Kristen and her family relocated to Dare County in 2022, after her husband retired from the military. Kristen has been waiting for an opportunity to continue doing what she loves, and is excited to work in collaboration with Dr. Pokorny to provide care to Elizabeth City and the Outer Banks.

When Kristen is not at Carolina Coastal Plastic Surgery, she enjoys family time, participating in her children’s school events, reading, running, and taking in all the outdoor fun Dare County has to offer.
